History of the Moorock Inn

Going back to when the building was first erected
We're currently compiling the history of when the Moorcock was first built, when it was most probably a farm. The farm would then have been converted at some point to a travellers' rest so that people going in and out of the valley over Waddington Fell would be able to rest their weary legs with a hearty meal and a pint of ale. We're trying to confirm this one way or another sp if you have any information that you'd like to us to display here then please don't hesitate to contact us.

Since releaunching the website we have been contacted by Michael Pye of Pye's Photography in Clitheroe. Michael has kindly allowed us to display some superb images of the Moorcock Inn back in the 1920s. As it turns out, one of Michael's relative, Edward Pye used to run the Moorcock Inn as a beer seller, all the way back in the 1850s. Small world eh?!

The Fire of '68
We have some photographs of the devastation wreaked by a fire back in 1968. Incidentally they were taken Michael Pye's father, who was passing on his way home from Waddington one evening. Click on the photos to enlarge them and scroll through as you'd like.

The Big Restoration
Although anyone living in the locality could go through the history of the Moorcock in terms of what it was like and how ran it, we'd like to enlighten you as to how we got to the way it is right now. Back in 2004, Stephen Thornber and his son Andrew purchased the Moorcock Inn and set about their restoration plan. Whilst they have backgrounds in textiles and farming, the Thornbers have worked hard in creating just the right "feel" for the Moorcock Inn. The implementation of an extensive yet sympathetic restoration plan whereby they have retained the original features and ambiance of the building whilst modernising kitchens and bedrooms have ultimately created a beautiful and comfortable country retreat. Click on the pictures below to see how the place looks now.
